Chelsea told how much it will cost to secure Jules Kounde transfer from Sevilla by Monchi

The Blues have been hopeful of striking a deal for the France international for more than a monthChelsea will have to pay Jules Kounde's £68million buyout clause if they are to sign the defender from Sevilla on deadline day, the La Liga club's sporting director, Monchi, has confirmed.

The Blues first approached the defender over a move to Stamford Bridge at the end of last month and personal terms were swiftly agreed between the two parties.

Kounde's signing was then put on the back burner by Chelsea as Marina Granovskaia focused her attention on signing Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan in a club-record deal worth £97.5million.

However, it remained the club's intention to bring the 22-year-old to west London. The Blues' believed they had a verbal agreement in place worth around £43million plus add-ons with Sevilla for Kounde last week. However, over the weekend, Los Nervionensesed raised their asking price.

And now in a deadline day press conference, Monchi has confirmed that Chelsea will only secure Kounde's signing today if they meet his buyout clause."It was not enough for us. We responded with a counter-offer which had a deadline of Friday, to allow us to be able to sign a replacement. They did not respond to that counter-offer before Friday.

"Kounde's clause never went up to €90million. It has always been €80million. We met at the end of May to discuss our targets for the window.

"I'm happy with how it went, but not 100% satisfied. There have been some factors such as the salary cap that have affected the plans."
