I LET MY FOOTBALL DO THE TALKING’ – LUKAKU REVEALS WHAT MATTERS MOST TO HIM
The time for talking is over. That’s Romelu Lukaku’s message on the day he could play his first Chelsea game in eight years.
Understandably in the week he finished quarantine after joining the Blues, there has been plenty of media interest in the striker. Lukaku has answered questions about his fitness, his relationship with Thomas Tuchel, and how he plans on connecting with his new team-mates on and off the pitch.
When it comes to his focus now, though, the Belgian is steely-eyed about what he wants to achieve at Stamford Bridge. It is collective not personal triumphs he is targeting.
‘I don’t talk about individual records and stuff like that because that’s not me, the only thing I talk about is winning,’ Lukaku said.
‘That’s the thing that matters to me. All the rest is nice but winning is the most important thing.
‘I don’t look forward too much. I’ve never been a guy who talks about personal ambitions. I’ve always tried to just work hard on the training pitch, and then at the end of the day I let my football do the talking. That’s how I’ve always been.
‘The ambition here at Chelsea is very consistent,’ added Lukaku.
‘It’s a very consistent club in terms of winning trophies, that’s what I think, and you can see it’s one of the clubs where you know as a player if you get there you’re going to challenge for multiple trophies. That’s what I like about this club
