The unlucky Chelsea star who will benefit most from the Premier League's latest change to VAR
Timo Werner scored just six Premier League goals during a mixed first season at ChelseaIt was after Chelsea had overcome Leicester City in May that Timo Werner gave what he felt was the most honest of assessments of his first campaign at Stamford Bridge.
“Until now I was always close, then at the end not really close," he explained to Sky Sports after having two goals ruled out, correctly, by VAR against the Foxes. "It may be the unluckiest season I have had, and will have.."The German had a point. He netted 12 times across all competitions for Chelsea during the 2020/21 campaign, a modest return given what was expected when he joined the Blues in a deal worth £49.5million from RB Leipzig. But Werner actually had the ball in the back of the net on 27 occasions.
Those of you reading will have done the maths. For those that haven't, that's 15 goals that Werner had ruled out during the course of the season by a combination of the match officials and VAR.
