Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo breaks astonishing Champions League record vs Villarreal

Cristiano Ronaldo has been selected to start for Manchester United in their Champions League match against Villarreal, breaking another another record.

He now has 178 appearances in the competition after joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side, breaking a two-week tie with Iker Casillas.

With his participation in United's opening loss to Young Boys, Ronaldo drew level with his former Real Madrid colleague and now holds the record.

Ronaldo has appeared in the competition for both Real Madrid and Juventus since his debut in October 2003, when United fell 2-1 to Stuttgart.
