Rangnick's big clear-out with Martial and Lingard set to go
Ralf Rangnick had barely stepped foot inside the Manchester United dugout before declaring that work was needed to his squad. He described it as 'big', but also admitted he does 'not have enough players' in the same sentence.
A confusing stance, then, but also one that reveals everything about his opinions on those available to him. There is a clear abundance of quality in the starting XI, but his reinforcements start to wear a bit thin when he is forced to turn to his bench.
There is also the added issue of several big first-name names demanding more game time. Judging by their performances so far this season, it will be difficult for them to break in, and therefore a move away may be the best option for all parties.
The likes of Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Dean Henderson look certain to be allowed to move on next month, potentially on loan. In Martial's case, however, it is likely to be for good, after his agent openly revealed the striker wants to leave.
As for Lingard, his performance against Young Boys in his last game was dismal, and it appears he is pining for a potential return to West Ham, who allowed him to flourish so memorably during his loan spell over the second half of last season.
Rangnick may not have wanted to deal with these dilemmas so early into his Old Trafford reign, with his focus firmly on achieving results on the pitch. However, a clear-out may be good for his side, and
